Laureate 2025 – Topic: Cardiovascular & Pulmonary Systems

Coraline RADERMECKER

The fourth “Baillet Latour Biomedical Award” was awarded to Dr Coraline RADERMECKER from the GIGA Institute – ULiège for her research on the respiratory physiology, and particularly to conduct the following research project:  “Investigating the role of lung-marginated neutrophils in cardiorespiratory physiology and endothelial responsiveness”.


Affiliation at the time of the Award: Coraline RADERMECKER is FNRS Research Associate at the GIGA Institute, where she runs her own research group on the biology of neutrophils and endothelial cells. She also teaches animal respiratory physiology at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Liège.

Laureate 2024 – Topic: Cancer

Jingjing ZHU

The third “Baillet Latour Biomedical Award” was awarded to Dr Jingjing ZHU from the de Duve Institute - UCLouvain for her research on immunotherapy and cancer, and particularly to conduct the following research project:  “Exploring agonists of the alpha2-adrenergic receptor as a new therapeutic approach for cancer immunotherapy”.


Affiliation at the time of the Award: Jingjing ZHU is Principal Investigator and runs her own Research Group in the Immunity and Cancer Department of the de Duve Institute.

Laureate 2023 – Topic: Neurosciences

Isabel Beets

The second “Baillet Latour Biomedical Award” was awarded to Professor Isabel BEETS of KULeuven for her research on the mechanisms of learning and memorization of the brain, and particularly to conduct the following research project:  “Decoding the Neuromodulatory Regulation of Learning and Forgetting”.

 


Affiliation at the time of the Award: Isabel Beets is Research Professor at the Biology Department of KULeuven and associated with the Leuven Brain Institute. Since 2018, she is heading her own research group at KU Leuven that studies the molecular basis of brain plasticity.

Laureate 2022 – Topic: Infection & Immunity

Thomas Marichal

The first “Baillet Latour Biomedical Award” was awarded to Professor Thomas Marichal of ULiège for his research on the pulmonary immune system, and particularly to conduct the following research project: “Atypical myeloid cells emerging during the recovery phase of respiratory viral infections: origin, identity, functions and regulation by tissue cues, host risk factors and chronic stress”.


Affiliation at the time of the Award: Thomas Marichal is Research Professor at Institute for Interdisciplinary Research in Biomedical Sciences (GIGA) at the University of Liège, where he heads the Immunophysiology Laboratory. He was also appointed Associate Professor of Physiology at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Liege since 2019.
